Protect All Kids

Even If They Aren't Yours.

"Looking like" Kanye landed me on some big stages like the George Lopez show, Drake's music video, and America’s Got Talent.

But first I want to tell you why I'm doing this.
Being born to teenage parents we struggled, but thankfully my parents showered me with love. We didn't always eat healthy because we were on government assistance, but I never felt lack.

Looking back on things, I notice that if you have a good support system you won't notice the things you don't have.

That’s why this is so important to me. This prevents some kids from even knowing they're poor or struggling. It helps them to focus and be more appreciative of what they currently have versus what they don’t.
But in my lowest time I figured out the one thing That Had To Happen.
With bullying being a big issue, nowadays more kids hate attending school than ever. The suicide rate of young kids is the highest on record. Can you imagine that?

Little children who aren't even responsible for the cards they were dealt, but are thinking about taking their lives... All because of some mean kids who also need guidance and support themselves.

So, I sought out to be the guy to uplift the other kids that felt like an outcast. Yet, I had to make sure that I remained strong through this though.

Talking to some of the children will literally make you cry from just hearing their stories. However, I never would have guessed that in the midst of helping kids that I would learn probably the most valuable lesson I've learned in my life.
I joined different mentoring programs that helped shape my mindset and attitude which makes me the person that I am today! Being with other kids in the program, I found myself helping them with small problems. Before long, all the kids in the programs liked me and became my friends all because I was able to help them.

This actually gave me joy. Being helpful to others not only felt good but it took my mind off my personal problems. On my journey to improve self, I found that one thing that could help me, even though it seemed backwards at first.
Giving Starts The Process Of Receiving.
It seemed like the more people I helped; the more others were willing to help me. THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING! I discovered that no one cared what you knew until they knew how much you cared. My life purpose revealed itself to me without even looking for it.

This was the idea of starting The Baron Jay Foundation. Some of the mentorship programs I participated in taught me about business and being a productive member of society. After the leaders sowed into my life, I felt ready to pour into others.
Kanye released his single " Through The Wire" back in 2003. Before I even knew who he was, people would come up to me and ask was I him. After it happened a few times, I searched online for this Kanye guy to see who I supposedly looked like. If anything, he looked like me.

I've always gotten attention, but it increased drastically when Kanye came out. Everywhere I went people asked me that. Nobody was concerned about what I had going on. They were only interested in how much I looked like Kanye West.

After it kept happening it kind of got aggravating. But one day after answering that question for the hundredth time some random person said to me, " man you could use that to your benefit!”

And that’s when the light came on!
It can be challenging growing a nonprofit foundation. One thing I found out about helping people is that you can't help everyone... As much as you would like to, everyone doesn't want help. Some just want a pity party and others will take advantage of you.

This did discourage me at times, but it didn't change my intentions. It actually helped me shift my focus to the people who could use my help the most; The ones that I could best relate to and really make an impact- The Children!

The goal became clear. Help at least 400 kids every year. With the attention I was getting from looking like Kanye along with my work ethic, I was going to do just that.

The Greatest Amongst You Shall Be Your Servant.

No matter the form of help- requiring school supplies, food, clothes, or just someone to talk to, I was there. When I think back on things, that’s exactly what I needed as a kid.
Since 2004, when I first launched the Baron Jay Foundation, we not only helped hundreds of students per year, but we now reach thousands from school to school.

What would life look like if every kid had access to real help? How great would our future be if we displayed compassion and created opportunities for the future doctors, scientists, and educators?

That’s why we participate in fun activities that help with learning and self-discovery; Practices that help them to learn and enjoy school while remaining thankful despite of setbacks.
